WEAR GREEN!

The UC Student Association, the official voice of all UC students, has passed a resolution urging UC students not to cross picket lines in the event that University workers go on strike.

As many of you may know, on Thursday, April 14th, University service workers on all 9 UC campuses and 5 medical centers, will go on strike to protest UC's unfair labor practices. During this one-day strike, workers, students, faculty, and community members will stand together for living wages and fair contracts for all UC workers.

strike demands

In a meeting several of us had with the Chancellor today on API issues, we recognized the strike as an issue specific to the API community because many of the strikers are API. I also met with Dean of Students, Karen Kenney who supports us supporting strikers!

Here are some things YOU can do to help:
1. Do NOT cross the picket line! This includes going to class, going to work on campus, or engaging in any on-campus activities outside of the strike. Remember, this is only one day, and it makes a big difference! It is your legal right to refuse to cross a picket line. Do not let your professors or your boss intimidate you!
2. Urge your professors to cancel class or hold classes off campus. (Scroll down for a sample email to send them).
3. Reschedule or hold daytime meetings off-campus.goo
4. If possible, refrain from eating at campus restaurants or in the dining halls that day.
5. Join the picket lines!!! Students, faculty, and community members will be joining workers to protest at the edge of campus throughout the day on Thursday. If you would like to join this effort, come to Bancroft & Telegraph at noon and 4:00pm!!!

Thank you for standing in solidarity with UC workers, and the UC Student Association. For more information on this resolution, please contact UCSA Board Member and External Affairs Vice-President Liz Hall at eavp@asuc.org.
