Andrew Lam - In his first essay collection, NPR commentator Andrew Lam explores his lifelong struggle for identity as a Viet Kieu -- a Vietnamese national living abroad. Eleven when Saigon fell to the Communists, Lam, the son of a South Vietnamese general, came to California, took an American name and grasped for the vague "American dream." He reflects on the war's meaning to the Vietnamese people, and his parents' longing for a lost homeland.
