WHAT: Two year commemorative event for Bich Cau Thi Tran
WHERE: Vietnamese American Community of Northern California – 115 E. Gish Road, Second Floor, San Jose, CA 95112 between North First Street and North Fourth Street.
WHEN: Saturday, July 16, 2005 from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm
WHO: Members of the community are invited to attend a commemorative event for Bich Cau Thi Tran. Speakers at the event will include members of Bich Cau Thi Tran’s family, Felicita Vu Ngo, Attorney for the Tran family, Regina Cardenas, daughter of Rudy Cardenas and others. Donations will be accepted to assist the Tran Family. Food will be served. The event is co-sponsored by the Vietnamese American Community of Northern California and the Coalition for Justice and Accountability.
WHY: On July 13, 2005, Bich Cau Thi Tran, was shot and killed by San Jose Police Officer Chad Marshall as she stood in her kitchen with a Vietnamese vegetable peeler in her hand. The family of Bich-Cau Thi Tran continues to pursue justice in this case through their civil lawsuit filed in the United States District Court against the City of San Jose for violation of civil rights and wrongful death.
