Exhibitions of Expression: Empowerment through Creativity

This year's conference is a celebration and open forum for Asian Americans in art. Creativity is all about self-expression and creating an identity for oneself, as well as the sharing and exchange of ideas. With many awesome Asian American artists from around the country leading workshops in film, music, poetry, and visual art, students and conference-goers will have the opportunity to check out the work of others and also to create pieces of their own. In doing so, we hope to reveal current underlying issues in the Asian American community, opening up dialogue and affecting change. There will also be workshops on life after college, LGBT issues, current Asian American law, Pacific Islander issues, and many others.
Throughout the day, poets, bands, MCs, painters, sculptors, and filmmakers will be showing their work. Writer, actor, and performer Lane Nishikawa will be present discussing his career and new film. Great performances throughout the day include John Cho's band, Left of Zed, as well as poet Denizen Kane, Bay Area band And More, and many others. The conference will close in the afternoon with the powerful and entertaining Junichi Semitsu, professor of Poetry for the People writing class.
The day will culminate in an evening event, in which actor John Cho (of "American Pie" and "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle") will speak about his career.
